No, Virginia, Santa Claus Does Not Exist, But Pernicious Business Cults Do; Letter From Mother of Quixtar Daughter in "The Business" Cult.

I read a letter on the Merchants of Deception Web site today, and it merited a repost on QCI. Read this letter and my comments after it:

Re: Daughter trapped in Quixtar Cult

"Hello,

The way that Quixtar has affected our life is through our daughter Maria. Maria is 27 years old and started talking to Amway people around 2001 when she was starting college. She had such a bright future.

Since then we have seen her move from job to job and friend to friend, never staying very long in one for more than 6 months. My husband and I believe tha her marriage failed because her new husband would not go along with the "business plan".

We have seen her move in with boyfriends and then dump them because they would not buy into the plan. Her attitude for the future is that the jobs she holds are only to earn money to "build her business". She has rarely been unemployed, and was even in the Navy for 4 years, but has no money to show for all of the years worked.

She is currently living with a man, who she now "no longer loves" and wants to move out; I am sure it is because he will not buy into the plan.

She rarely talks to us because we are "negative energy" and Quixtar teaches to always think positive, think on what you want to accomplish and you will get it. She has no money, no car, no place of her own; yet she reads the Robb Report magazine to visualize the expensive cars and items that she will own someday.

With no money, she still finds a way to attend the far-away business meetings for a weekend, and buy all of the books and tapes. She goes to work every day and then goes to meetings or "appointments" at night, and yet she never questions why she never has any money; a good business person never questions that.

It hurts that she puts her business before all of her friends and family. She lives 20 minutes away but rarely calls or visits.

How can we get her out of this cult?"

XXXXXXX XXXXX

All the misinformation Quixtar releases denying being a cult sickens me when I hear and see real stories of folk caught up in the deceit of motivational organizations (like this woman's daughter, Maria). These pernicious business cults make victims out of families and everyone.

Mothers, Fathers, Grand Parents, Brothers, Sisters, Spouses, Sons, Daughters, Friends, Ministers and the Community are harmed by the broken relationships these cults foster. Teaching one to avoid contact with others who do not share "the dream" isolate individuals into a world filled with deceit of the cult programmers and they become fodder to be taken advantage of. It also isolates their families into fear and anxiety: real victims of something which claims not to exist.

Quixtar Cult Intervention promotes the only cure for cultism, which is simply the truth! Have you been victimized by a cult motivational organization masquerading as "The Business?" Tell your story here. Leave a comment for others to read. Maybe it will help someone else deal with their troubles.

In my case it is my father who is involved with the Quixtar/Amway scam. I am at a loss to figure out why he can’t see the truth about this “business” because he was a very successful business executive that always made more than 100,000 a year.

I wasn’t really concerned about the “business” my dad’s new wife had him working "on the side" until a few months ago, when he tried to convince me to drop out of school and help them with it. I have been working towards a PhD in chemistry for 3 years and when my dad asked me to quit that to help him and his wife expand this “business” I was shocked.

That's when I started doing some reserach. Education use to be very important to my father, but since he has been involved with the Quixtar/Amway scam, he has undergone a series of personality changes.

Now all he talks about is how rich he is going to be, and how I am wasting my life slaving away for this PhD that will never make me millions. I tried to explain to him that it’s not about money for me. My research deals with the discovery and design of drugs that help fight cancer, he used to understand that. Now he wants me to throw all these years of hard work away to sell myself out to this money making scam.

His religoius beliefs have changed, all he talks about is money. My father and I use to be able to have discussions about things but now he just freaks out and becomes incredibly angry anytime I say anything even remotely negative about Quixtar/Amway.

Recently my father lost a very good job as an executive in a small company. He said it had nothing to do with the Quixtar/Amway thing but I just don’t believe it. If he talks to people at work about Quixtar the way he talks to me then it’s just a matter of time before he loses the next job. He gets so angry and irrational whenever I tell him I am not interested in quitting school and developing the “business” with him.

One night he got so angry with me when I once again told him I don't want to "join" the "business" that he called my husband and I foolish for staying in school.

He said we would never be "free" until we learned this Quixtar crap and went into business for ourselves....

My dad and I used to be close, now thanks to Quixtar I feel like I am loosing my father, and no amount of reason seems to get through to him.

My heart goes out to you my friend. I cried when I read your comment. You and your Dad are why I care so deeply. It hurts to have something separate us from our loved ones. I have felt that pain in my own life.

I am dealing with the Quixtar "business cult" myself. That is why QCI exists. To do nothing would be to let the deceiver win.

I did not necessarily believe in cults or in Satan until I encountered "The Business Cult" and it all became clear to me.

Satan disguises himself as light and deceives the very elect.

These cults attempt to take advantage of everyone and everything within their realm of influence and contact.

They take full advantages of weakness in human character--chief of which is avarice and greed--the hook by which they were caught.

A cult, and cult thinking, must not be appeased or enabled. You can be enveloped into their realm of influence and basically be enslaved to do their will.

Any new friends you might make become a new prospects for induction into their cult.

Your own life becomes theirs. Be very careful. It is your close "relative" bond that becomes the chain that binds many a person to bondage to do the will of these people.

Intense pressure is placed against loved ones to support "the business". To do that only futhers the evil and enables it to continue unchecked.

I know it is hard, but the only thing loved ones can do is take the "tough love" approach.

Do nothing that will encourage or enable participation in the cult. Do not provide any time, money or assistance to help to further the madness.

Also, be vocal! Don't bite your tongue It is your duty to speak your mind. Tell that loved one that they have been deceived by a pernicious cult. Arm yourself with truth and don't be afraid or shy. This upfront and vocal approach is better in the long run.

What I say on Quxtar Cult Intervention is what your Dad needs to know. If he disowns you and casts you aside, at least this may, in the end, bring him to the "cross" of truth.

Cults like "The Business" attempt to squash disent and anything harmful to their purpose. To say anyting bad about the business is like committing the unpardonable sin.

You are far better to be cast aside by loved ones than to Kowtow to their cult objectives. Be assured that if you permit it, you will be put into some subservient role in the workings of their cult masters.

There is no middle ground. You are either for them and their cult or against it. To be wishy-washy is to acquience (to basically not approve but permit the cult to further its objectives anyway).

I hope I have said something helpful here.

Wow anon, I am speechless. I am sorry to hear of your situation and hope it improves. Have you suggested to your father about keeping an accurate Profit and Loss? Maybe if you could somehow get him to literally see the results or lack there of, on paper it may give him food for thought. It's a long shot but a suggestion. Good luck to you.

Do you notice what happens with Quixtar? It is like an insidious parasite that once it gets inside of a person, it changes them. It wants to supplant those things which were formerly good in their life (like their career). It makes a person turn on themselves and begin hating their job and family and friends who do not fall in line with their new distorted view of the world.

This "The Business" Cult causes good folk to loose jobs simply because they no longer can be tolerated at work; they loose interest in their day job and isolate themselves into their nightly cult activities. It is a tradegy.

Motivational training the way Quixtar does it, especially this Ron Puryear bunch, causes people to hate their former every day work lives.

The Cult indoctrination requires 100% loyalty to "the business". Then the cult sucks the life blood out of its victim who is left in shambles in the end.

Quixtar PR people spin their propaganda to make folk believe what I say is untrue. They use the tools of the deceiver: deception and lies--the tricks of their trade.

Amway, ruining lives for half a century!

What a legacy they have. What truly crummy people these Alticor PR types are. This includes the Ada-tudes blog folk: purveyors of lies and deceit. They try to make you happy with your vitamins and meal replacement bars while your finances are being sucked dry. What Bunko!

anna28, you have been spotted tring to play both sides like some double agent. Here you are against Amway/Quixtar etc.... But found posting on (and encourageing) the infamose Tex blog. You do understand Im sure that Tex is pro Amway/Quixtar but anti "Tools". Why jump back and forth? It does not help with your credibility. So where do you stand anna28, is it with A/Q/A or against just Tools or both? By the way Quixtar has their own Tool company now too, and some lame university. I guess they want "ALL" the money. What do you think?

Sometimes I feel you must be bi-polar. One minute you are for the Biz, and the next dead set againt it. Am I imagining this? I at least see some consistency in anna's comments. You seem to be creating the confusion. Your comments about your father I find to be from your heart. They are right in line with why I post this blog.

A running gun battle with anna seems to be counter productive. Enlighten me on your thoughts? I sense some conflict within you. Am I wrong? You seem to have one foot on one side and your other foot on the other?

Yep good post. Profit at all costs. In my group, upline taught how long you could go without paying the mortgage before foreclosure. Never miss a function. The group was told to simply "change jobs" if your job prevented your commitment to the business or if your boss did not allow time off to attend a function.

Exactly the same kind of things Eric Scheibler said in his book. Manipulation and money extraction at its finest. This close personal control over underlings is how cults operate.

I've read people claim that Quixtar isn't a cult because there isn't any karismatic figure like Sun Ymung Moon at the head. Hmmm. What is Ron Puryear then? What was Dexter Yager, the pied piper?

Joecool said...

For some people, it wasn't just the charismatic leader, but the hopes of becoming a charismatic leader. My upline was more interested in being recognized than he was in the money.

Being duped for money or glory is still being duped. There are a lot of egocentric people in Quixtar. That seems to be a defining character trait for this group.

I'll bet that attendance at the formerly big rallies will fall off even more this year. What do you think?

IBO numbers must be down. The Rebellion had to take a bite out of the Biz? I wonder how the name change is going to effect recruitment? I wonder if IBOs are still hiding the Amway stink?

My, everyone seems so angry. I am an IBO and am enjoying building a business. I am no newcomer with stars in my eyes, I have been an independant business owner for over 20 years. I am a college educated woman with a business degree who sees the Quixtar business as a reasonable way to add additional income for me and my family.

No, the business is not perfect, after all, it is full of people and there are no perfect people. I respect all people, whether in business with me or not. For those who have a wish to make money in a way other than an 8 to 5 job or just as an additional source of income, Quixtar/Amway has over 10,000 quality products to offer for sale. A balanced view of the business can be found at

Thanks for reading my blog. You seem like a nice person, and I hope something you've read here rings true to you. You've at least found a site that inspires your thought.

Yes, I want to prevent people from getting involved in such a sham scheme. Suckers for such things are born every day. They are the life blood of Quixtar and other MLM Scams.

The Business Cult is indeed a pernicious business cult. It does harm. I allowed you to paste your advertisement for the IBO lies. People that have to put up such a site can be held in suspicion. Even Nixon said he wasn't a crook.

you know, it really is interesting to see how mucch "the Business" relates to peoples real lives.

Disfunctionable, argumentative, and full of oppinions that they all stick to.

I believe they are all right in their thoughts. Whats wrong with an oppinion annyway?

Certainly there are people who really take, what i believe, the wrong actions in developing business.

I have been working with amway and then with quixtar, and now with amway-global going on 13 years now. I grew up poor and was tought that if someone wads going to contract/pay you for something, you do it, and do it well as you were hire to.

Interestingly enough, the same ddirection toward my job was given from my sponsor and my entiore upline. Through the years building this buisness, what i have learned has helped me to increase my job income tremendously, and when i actually began using what i was encouraged to learn toward my own business while taking care of my responsibilities that i was contracted for we went platinum and then founders.

The extra money is good. And quite frankly, i could not create the same income with the same amount of time if i were to give it to my job. Besides. It's a good change of scenery.

As with any industry, it takes from you and gives to you. When i opened my own tradition stores, it took a lot from me and my family. Yet everyone seemed to understand that i had to keep the store open so i missed something...all because i had an employee call in sick. They thought it was doing good be[ause i had $75k in over-head. And a big building with a sign etc.

I dont have any of that here, and cant say that i regret any of the decisions i have made. (for me personnaly) there are some who have challeenges with them, however, i dont believe that matters. They do things, and always have for the matter, that i dont care for. Doesnt make them bad, nor I. Just different.

Not everything is bad about what is happening, but individuals cannot go around with the eyes covered either. I looked at this particular business many times before i agreed upon the people that i would be around. Certainly i would encourage the same to anyone.

As with anyone here, and i have posted on joecool's blog too, your oppinions are valid per your experiences as are ours. And they are not coterminous to say the least. For the same reason you cant just go to any college and get the same education. That's why you interview them just as they interview you!

I hope that you will not omit my post from your blog as i believe it fair. And do respect your blog for what it is...full of oppinions...that matter to themself and some others around.

While there are some rumors out there that are true ther eafre some that are not and can be first saught out www.iboaiblog.com

I respect your right to have your say. I am so happy that you are open minded enough to consider my thoughts and opinions. There's hope for you my friend. You at least don't view AmQuix through rose colored glasses like so many do.

I express my opinions in the hope that many will begin to see through the deceptions of the motivational organizations and ultimately with Quixtar.

As I've said before, many IBO's have been exposed to the truth about their biz, but choose to ignore it and continue down the AmQuix road anyway. They fall for the logic that: "Facts don't matter when the dream is big enough!"

AmQuix becomes a life style for many people. They find something that appeals to their need for belonging. Many people like the activity and the strong feeling of togetherness that a cult fosters. They ignore the negatives as they are taught do. Therefore, the facts I present many times don't matter. I present them anyway. There may be that one person who has had enough with the deception.

Thank you so much for the insight into the Amway scam. I am a business student at an ivy league university who was recently asked by an associate of mine to consider joining his "business team". He sent me the link to his website and I checked it out today. I immediately smelled a scam. He is an extremely intelligent business major, and initially I let that lend some legitimacy to his claim. People should also be aware that Amway is apparently selling personalized websites with a very professional exterior, and be warned that not everyone will intially recognize this as a scam.

But after reading sites like yours I realize that my gut instinct (as usual) was correct. I feel like I have a very promising future in front of me working with renewable energy and environmental regulation and I cant thank you enough for keeping me from signing on to this horror show.

In hindsight, I realize that the recession must be affecting business, and this "friend" of mine was only reaching out to me to maintain his bottom line.

Interestingly enough, he is looked at as a successful entrepreneur at Cornell and has a profile and interviews in the Cornell entrepreneurs website. blegh, I wash my hands of this. Thanks again, and good luck.
